Watford UTC

Branding and technology

The background: The Watford UTC is a wonderful school, and as part of the UTC movement set up by Sir Kenneth Baker, it is a new type of education where students are prepared for the ‘real world.’ All UTC’s have a university partner alongside industry partners, and each UTC has an industry focus. The one in Watford holds a specialism in computer science, tourism and event management. The task here was to get the word out that this school existed. It had just opened and wanted to attract the right kind of student.

What we did: We did a very extensive stakeholder interview process. Speaking with staff, students, parents, teachers and governors. We did brand values workshops with each core group as well and from all these inputs created a set of values that helped define the school. These values we would use to drive the marketing communications.

This resulted in newspaper adverts, wraparounds, leaflet drops, direct mail campaigns, as well as an animation which could be used on open days and for students and teachers to share.
